Robert Dawson celebrates 25 years at Highcroft

Thursday, October 08, 2015

Highcroft is proud to be one of the few remaining veterinary practices to still be owned by vets and this month we celebrate as Robert Dawson, one of our much loved owners, reaches his 25th anniversary with the practice.

Robert graduated from Glasgow University in 1990 and joined Highcroft as an associate vet shortly afterwards. Robert became a partner in the business in 1996 and, alongside Richard Killen, has grown the practice from 2 sites to 12, with a reputation as one of the best independent vets in the UK.

As many of our long standing clients will know, Robert was a popular vet with an army of loyal followers, and is just as popular with the team. However after more than 20 years of practising, he took a step back from clinical work to focus on the enormous task of managing the ever growing Highcroft group.  The practice has continued to thrive with Robert as a key driving force in its success.

Here’s what some of the team have to say:

Robert is a superb veterinary surgeon and has been the leading light in building Highcroft into the fantastic business it is today. Being incredibly hard working and hugely respected by his peers, Robert has always been dedicated to providing nothing but the highest quality veterinary care. He was instrumental in developing our specialist referral centre and has endless amounts of enthusiasm and drive. I could not have asked for a better business partner and friend for the past 25 years.Richard Killen, CEO and joint owner of Highcroft Veterinary Group

Robert is a dynamic and forward thinking vet. His love of gadgets and desire to treat pets to the best of his ability has meant that we always have the latest equipment and facilities at the Hospital. Since leaving clinical practice he has extended the same ethos in his management style and has continued to develop the business in the same vein. Robert cares about his clients and staff alike and wants the best for them. Good boss, Great Vet! Chris Gudge, Hospital and Referral Manager

I’ve worked with Robert for 18 years and what strikes me most is his sense of humour. He has a very quick wit and never takes himself too seriously. I even said years ago, after a particularly hilarious Christmas party speech, that he was wasted as a vet – he should have been a comedian. Margaret Brown, Receptionist at Highcroft Veterinary Hospital

Not only is Robert a great boss, he is also a very good surgeon. All the nurses really looked forward to him being on ops for the day. He is greatly missed downstairs in the hospital, in particular his super skills at endoscopic foreign body removals!Laura Curtis, Deputy Head Nurse

Congratulations Robert for the past 25 years! We look forward to many more years to come.
