Ease the aches and pains – physiotherapy for dogs and cats

Tuesday, February 16, 2016

Have you ever thought your pet may need physiotherapy?

If your pet has just had orthopaedic surgery or suffers long term from arthritis, physiotherapy could really benefit their quality of life.

Benefits of physiotherapy in cats and dogs:

  • Faster recovery from surgery
  • Help with mobility and function in the limbs
  • Reducing pain
  • Improving muscle strains
  • Performance enhancement in working or sporting dogs

When would your pet need physiotherapy?

Reasons your pet may require physio can include:

  • Arthritis
  • Lameness
  • Hip dysplasia
  • Elbow dysplasia
  • Loss of function in the older pet
  • Spinal pain
  • Sporting injuries e.g. agility dogs
  • Soft tissue injuries
  • Conservative or post-operative management of orthopaedic conditions
  • Medically unwell pets requiring prolonged rest or immobilisation
  • Neurological conditions

At Highcroft we have a Chartered Veterinary Physiotherapist called Kelly Dewsnip. Kelly holds physio clinics at Highcroft Veterinary Hospital, Longwell Green Veterinary Centre and Silva House Veterinary Centre each week.

Kelly is also able to design an ‘at-home’ treatment plan for your pet so that you can continue to help your pet if they require physiotherapy long-term.

If you think your pet could benefit from seeing Kelly, speak to your usual vet first so they can arrange a referral.
